Discover Las Palmas Super Burrito

The first time I walked into Las Palmas Super Burrito, I was hungry in that very specific, post-work way that only a real taqueria can fix. Tucked along Fruitvale Avenue at 2682 Fruitvale Ave, Oakland, CA 94601, United States, Las Palmas Super Burrito has the kind of neighborhood energy you can’t fake. Orders are called out quickly, the grill stays busy, and the smell of carne asada hits you before you even glance at the menu.

I’ve eaten burritos all over the Bay Area, and what stands out here is consistency. On one visit, I watched the cook layer rice first, then pinto beans, followed by meat that had clearly just come off the grill. That process matters. According to food science research referenced by the USDA, serving grilled meats immediately after cooking helps preserve moisture and texture, which explains why the steak here stays juicy instead of dry. When my burrito was wrapped tight in foil, it felt heavy in the best way, the kind of meal you know you’ll remember an hour later.

The menu is straightforward but confident. Super burritos dominate for a reason, yet tacos, quesadillas, and plates are all there if you want something smaller. The tortillas have that hand-warmed and slightly chewy texture that signals freshness. I usually go for carne asada, but a friend swears by the al pastor, pointing out how the pineapple balances the spice. That flavor contrast isn’t accidental. Culinary studies often note that sweet-acid elements enhance savory meats, and you can taste that balance clearly here.

What really sells the experience is how the staff moves. Orders come fast, mistakes are rare, and substitutions are handled without eye rolls. That efficiency mirrors what industry groups like the National Restaurant Association describe as high-performing counter-service operations: clear workflows, minimal wait times, and visible food preparation that builds trust. You see your burrito being made, step by step, which adds confidence in what you’re about to eat.

Reviews around Oakland back this up. Regulars often mention generous portions and reliable flavor, and that matches my own experience across multiple visits. One afternoon, I split a burrito with a coworker just to test portion size, and we still walked away full. That kind of value keeps people coming back, especially in a city with endless food options.

Las Palmas Super Burrito also benefits from its location. Fruitvale Avenue is known for vibrant food spots, and this place fits right in. It’s casual enough for a quick lunch but filling enough to carry you through a long evening. Parking can be tight during peak hours, which is worth noting, but the steady flow of customers suggests most people find it worth the minor hassle.

From a food safety standpoint, everything feels solid. Ingredients look fresh, surfaces stay clean, and hot items are served hot. While I can’t see behind the scenes, the visible practices align with standard guidelines recommended by public health authorities for quick-service restaurants. The only limitation I’ve noticed is seating; during busy times, you may end up taking your food to go.

If you judge a restaurant by whether you crave it again a few days later, this one passes easily. The combination of bold flavors, fast service, and that satisfying foil-wrapped heft makes it a dependable choice. Whether you’re checking reviews before your first visit or you’ve been stopping by for years, Las Palmas Super Burrito feels like a place that knows exactly what it is and delivers on it every single time.

  • I love this place, great Mexican food. I discovered this restaurant about 13 years ago and my favorite Is the prawn burrito. Amazing flavor, the beans, cheese, rice and jalapeno peppers inside are yummy. I just came In the other day and ordered the super burrito and cat fish. I only waited 8 minutes or less, quick service and friendly. I like the catfish it is plump, well seasoned and you get a lot for the price. Go ahead and try this restaurant, very delicious.

  • It's easy to miss this place. But it is worth finding! The portions are large and the prices are super reasonable. It's a little hole in the wall, hidden gem type food. If you saw someone who wasn't a local here I'd be surprised. I had a torta carne asada, and hush puppies. There were so many I shared with a friend and still had left overs. They aren't going to hold your hand to order, and the space is relatively empty. You aren't meant to hang out.
